Rules

BidOrbit is a public leaderboard rendered as a solar system. Rank is what you pay - nothing else. There are no ads, no editorial curation, and no way to buy a rank other than outbidding whoever holds it.

The ranks

There are nine fixed ranks. The highest bidder owns the Sun (#1). The next eight highest bidders own a planet, in order out to Neptune. Everyone else orbits further out, in the Kuiper Belt.

Ranks are labelled by orbit rather than by number. SOL is the Sun - first place, at the centre. After that, Orbit I is Mercury and second place, Orbit II is Venus and third, and so on out to Orbit VIII - Neptune, and ninth. The further from the Sun, the lower the bid. Kuiper Belt entries keep a plain number, counting outward from the first one past Neptune.

The boards

• All-time is the main board. Rank is everything you have ever paid. It does not expire.
• Today is a separate race, scoped to bids placed since midnight UTC. Rank here is what you have spent today, not your all-time total - so a brand that spends $50 today outranks one that topped up $5 on a $10,000 position. A bid drops off this board once the day resets, and everything you spend still counts in full towards All-time.
• Daily keeps a permanent archive - one closed board per day, forever, ranked the same way Today is.
• Categories run the same all-time mechanic scoped to one vertical at a time.

What it costs

One rule covers the whole board: a position costs whatever it is currently held for, plus $10. An empty position is held for nothing, so claiming one costs $10 - the Sun included. Taking an occupied position costs its holder's amount plus $10, and raising your own listing costs $10. There is no separate entry price and no premium attached to any particular rank; the Sun is the dearest position to take simply because whoever holds it holds the most.

Those are minimums, not fixed prices - and the figure on an Outbid button is a starting point, not a floor. Because ranking sorts purely by amount, a position often costs less than the button suggests: if you already hold a listing you can always lower the amount to $10 above what you currently hold, and the form tells you live which rank that lower amount actually wins. You are never charged a premium for a position a smaller raise would have bought. The exact amount is shown to you at checkout before you pay anything.

Today's board is priced separately. The all-time board ranks by everything you have ever spent; today's board ranks by what you have spent since midnight UTC, and it is priced in that same unit. So a price quoted on the Today page is measured against what you have spent today, not against your all-time total - if you have not bid yet today, today's board starts you from scratch however long you have been listed. A single payment counts toward both boards at once.

How outbidding works

You can outbid the current holder of any spot - planet or Kuiper - at any time, by paying more than they currently hold that spot for. There is no lock-in period and no tiebreaker beyond the clock: the higher bid wins, and if two bids are ever equal, the earlier bid keeps the higher rank.

Already listed? Submit the same URL or handle again to raise your own rank. Your new amount must be higher than your current bid; checkout only charges the difference between your old and new amount. No one else can take your rank by matching your own bid.

Category sponsorships

Separately from the orbits, each category page has one sponsor slot - a pinned placement at the top of that category. It is bought the same way a rank is: you pay, and it goes live the moment payment confirms and stays yours until someone outbids it. There is no expiry and no fixed duration.

• A sponsorship is completely separate from the orbits. It never moves you up or down the Sun/planet/Kuiper ladder, and holding a rank does not give you a category sponsorship.
• Category sponsorships follow the same rule: an unsponsored category is held for nothing, so sponsoring one costs $10, and taking one from its current sponsor costs their amount plus $10.
• Taking a category from someone else charges your full bid, not the difference. The difference-only charge described above applies when you raise your own existing sponsorship. A different company taking the category over pays their whole amount.
• If you are outbid as sponsor, your placement ends and nothing is refunded - the same as being outbid on a rank.

What you can list

A product website, or an X/social @handle.

What's not allowed

• Chat and invite links - Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, Messenger, Signal, and similar. The board is for products and profiles, not group chats.
• Sexual, pornographic, or adult-platform content.
• Link shorteners, or links carrying tracking/affiliate query parameters, used to hide or dress up the real destination.
• Fake, missing, or impersonated company details on the listed site - see our Terms of Service.

What happens after you pay

• Your listing goes live immediately, showing the amount paid and your resolved logo/company name.
• The headline and description shown next to your listing come straight from your own site's page - its title and meta description - not something you write. Every bid, including a re-bid, re-reads this from your site at that moment.
• Clicks on your listing are counted, then redirected straight through to the URL or handle you submitted, with a utm_source tag added so the visit shows up as coming from BidOrbit in your own analytics. Your listing's click count is public.
• Links to your site are marked rel="sponsored nofollow", which is how paid placements are meant to be labelled. A listing buys visibility and real visitors - it does not buy search-engine ranking, and marking it this way keeps your own site clear of Google's rules on paid links.
• Payments are not refundable - see the Refund & Cancellation Policy.
• We may remove a listing at any time for breaching the Terms of Service, without refund.
